Ms. Kwong has served as Purchase Clerk for Leflore County since July 1994. She is certified every four years by the MS State Auditor’s Office. She is a member of the MS Association of Governmental Purchasing and Property Agents, and attends the MAGPPA Conference for educational seminars yearly.

As Purchase Clerk, it is her duty to purchase commodities and equipment of proper quality, at the best possible price in accordance with state purchasing laws for use by the various county departments, in a timely manner.

Duties Included:

  • Issue Purchase Orders for all county departments
  • Order commodities and equipment in a timely and economical manner
  • Match Requisition, Purchase Order, and Receiving Report to invoices
  • Code invoices for accounting purposes and send to Accounts Payable Clerk
  • Negotiate with vendors
  • Request quotes for purchases
  • Advertise for bids for purchases
  • Make recommendation on lowest and best bid
  • Maintain all purchasing records

Solid Waste Department Staff

Jimmy Gibson has served as Solid Waste Director for Leflore County since July 2012. Mr. Gibson has 28 years’ experience in Residential Garbage Service.


UNIT SYSTEM

The Leflore County Unit System also known as the Road and Bridge Department is located at 310 James Hargrove in Industrial Park. Jerry Smith has been the Road Manager since 2012, but he has been employed with Leflore County since 1981. Our department is committed to serving the citizens of Leflore County by ensuring that the roads and bridges are safe for travel.

The Unit System maintains the roads and bridges throughout Leflore County including state aid roads. We are responsible for making routine maintenance of bridges and replace county signs.  We spray, weed-eat and cut grass throughout the county. We haul gravel and other materials to county roads and grade the roads. In order to maintain proper drainage the county installs and replaces culverts and we also clear drains and remove beaver dams. We also perform excavation including removing lily pads from our area lakes. We also mill, mat & seal, and pave county roads.

WASTE TIRE DISPOSAL PROGRAM

The Leflore County Board of Supervisors has been awarded a grant from the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality for proper disposal of junk tires and waste in Leflore County. There will be no cost for proper disposal to Leflore County residents.
